I am Sam
Always referred to as diverse and original, I am Sam are an eclectic, energetic four-piece band who have been captivating audiences with their unique brand of Indie, Folk and Rock. Building up a significant following in the North Wales/Shropshire borders area, the band fuse a wide range of influences and styles to create their original songs; from Fairport Convention, Jefferson Airplane and Fleetwood Mac through to The Beautiful South, Nirvana and PJ Harvey.
Starting life in 2012 as a three-piece acoustic outfit before going electric and adding a rhythm section, I am Sam was initially the brainchild of Helen who had previously made three albums as one half of the acoustic duo Blue Skies. The arrival of Iain, who had been a member of Welsh doom rock band ‘Mother of Six’ and featured on Bruce Dickinson’s Radio 1 Rock Show, increased both the volume of the gigs and the diversity of material and the band’s sound began to evolve. With the addition of Tim on drums and, finally, Jonny on bass the current line-up of I am Sam coalesced in 2015 and has been gigging solidly since. A favourite at festivals as well as the live gig circuit I am Sam have appeared at Whitchurch Blackberry Fair for two years running and are a staple at Gigfest in Oswestry. Appearances at Llanfyllin’s Workhouse Festival and Wrexham’s Wrexfest have further cemented the band’s reputation. Support slots with established Folk-Rock bands and festival appearances are all in the pipeline for 2017-18.
